Cal Poly Rose Float is proud to release our 75th float for the 2024 Rose Parade: “Shock N’ Roll: Powering the Musical Current”

Shock N’ Roll: Powering the Musical Current embraces the idea that community and harmony can exist in any environment. Viewers experience wonder as they watch electric underwater creatures power and bring life to their musical community.

Our float tells the story of a community of electric eels and rays living in a sea of electric instruments. All the uniquely dynamic and energizing creatures come together to exist in harmony with one another, providing life and music to the sea.

PASADENA TOURNAMENT OF ROSES ANNOUNCES 2024 PARADE THEME

Celebrating a World of Music: The Universal Language

This year, the 2024 Pasadena Tournament of Roses President, Alex Aghajanian, announced “Celebrating a World of Music” as the Pasadena Tournament of Roses theme; “In a world of different cultures, beliefs, hopes, and dreams, one language unites us all — music. The sound, texture, rhythm, form, harmony, and expression meld together to move, soothe, excite, and delight the world. From bossa nova to blues, classical to country, metal to mariachi, and rock to rap, thousands of genres invite us to become one in celebrating a world of music. Whether near or far, young or old, we invite you to year-long festivities that culminate on New Year’s Day at the Rose Parade.”

PLANNING

Big Design is the primary meeting where the Cal Poly Roae Float is designed. Both the Pomona and San Louis Obispo design team join together for an intensive day of discussion, creativity, and design. The winning concept from Concept Contest is reviewed and then developed upon as the design team decides main elements, environment, and side elements. At the end of Big Design, the design team presents what they have created to the rest of the team and await feedback for potential design improvements.
