December 26-30 in Pasadena, CA
Thank you for supporting Cal Poly Rose Float.
If our sign-ups reach capacity or our available slots do not work for you, consider volunteering to decorate other floats!
This is a FREE volunteer opportunity for large groups and small parties interested in assisting Cal Poly Rose Float in their preparations for the Rose Parade. All ages are welcome to help, however younger children should have an adult with them at all times. Below is everything volunteers would want or need to know about before committing to assisting our team!
Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
Ask how to complete a task if you are not sure. We want it done right the first time.
Don't refuse to do a job. Each job is equally important to the completion of the float.
Clean up after yourself. Return your materials to the Deco trailer, wash off glue-filled paint brush, and clean up fallen material in your area.
Be aware of who is decorating around you. This prevents materials from being dropped on someone's head.
To decorate on the float or on the scaffolding, you must be 16 years of age.
No horse play... for obvious reasons.
Be respectful of other volunteers and the leadership team directing the decoration process.
Have Fun!
Snacks and water.
Layers of warm clothing: pants, long-sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, scarf, beanie, gloves, thermals, etc. Despite the fact that Pasadena is located in "Sunny California," it gets really cold during Deco week.
Make sure to wear your work clothes. Glue and flowers are permanently stuck on to clothing after Deco week. It is inevitable. We recommend jeans and cotton t-shirts.
Closed-toed shoes must be worn. This is a safety precaution and not to mention we don’t want your feet to get cold!
All volunteers will be given a tour of the float and will be able to ask questions about our float making process.
Though this is a family friendly event, the environment and tasks at hand are not conducive for children under 8 years old. Children 8 to 12 years old may engage in some decorating activities for short periods of time that we find appropriate with full parental supervision. Ultimately we find these tasks don’t hold their attention past 40 minutes.
If you have questions about Decorations Week you can contact us by phone or email for more information.
